This is wonderful not only for our school, but for our state and nation as well. The best part is that it is an actual academic doctorate (not a questionably useful one **COUGH** troy DNP **COUGH**).

Lots of good news coming out of Jville the last few days. Lots still to come with new stadium adds etc. Very exciting time to be a Gamecock.

Don't show your ignorance, JSU02. Troy's doctor's degree is certainly a real doctorate. There are other schools in the country that grant the same degree. You're not sore that TROY once again beet JSU to the punch by getting a doctoral program first, are you? 8-)

I work in healthcare, so I have some insight on this subject. A DNP is nothing more than latest example of "degree creep". We need more doctors and we need more nurses; we don't need more clinical nurses with doctorates. If troy had an academic degree like a Doctor of Science in Nursing or PhD in nursing that would be something to be proud of, but troy doesn't have the resources for such programs. On the other hand, Jacksonville State University's Doctor of Science in Emergency Management is a more academically rigorous and prestigious degree for a university to offer, and the fact we will be the only school in the nation to offer such is quite an accomplishment.
